You NEED to Read This Book!

See this content in the original post

There have been many things that have helped me throughout my journey of becoming a business owner, from mentors to podcasts to books, I have gained valuable knowledge from each and I’m so grateful to have access to a variety of educational tools.

As far as books go I LOVE to listen to a good book on audible whilst I’m doing other things such as popping out for a walk or doing my make up.

In this blog post, I wanted to share with you a book that has had a HUGE impact on my entrepreneurial journey and how it has helped me to shape Firebelly media right from the very beginning.

The E-Myth by Michael E. Gerber

I’ve been reading this book again for the second time, the EMyth (the entrepreneurial myth).

I can’t stress enough how great this book truly is!

I read it for the first time before I started my business and thought ‘wow, this is really interesting’. The book talks about the different phases of business growth, from the very beginning of early start-ups where it’s just you, then the phase where your business grows and you begin to scale the business and bring more people in.

It details the variety of challenges that come at those different stages, if anything, it makes you realise that you are not alone in your struggles!

I find this SUCH an amazing book.

Now I’m reading the book for the second time at a different stage of my business, I see it in a different perspective. We are now in the middle phase of business growth, where we’ve scaled the business, added full-time staff and growing the business each day, which can come with its challenges.

I actually recommend you read this book several times throughout your entrepreneurial journey. My perception of the book now reading it for the second time is SO different now that I’ve been through the first phase!

The 3 character types of an entrepreneur

The E-Myth talks about these three different characters that every entrepreneur is. If you are a business owner you will know just HOW many hats you have to wear and I’m almost certain you will be able to relate to these.

The Technician - the person doing the actual work

The Manager - the person that loves organisation and things to be perfect

The Entrepreneur - the visionary and wants to run constantly for new opportunities and just wants to throw things back!

I was laughing to myself on a walk thinking ‘gosh that is SO me’.

The book talks about the fact that every business owner is a balance of these three people within one, which means that depending on the different percentages that the business owner is, it really affects how they grow the business and the challenges that they see.

It’s funny because as a business owner you constantly think that the problem and all the things that you need to develop or improve in your business are unique and are only happening to you.

When in actual fact it’s not only your business that has these challenges, actually it is every single business! Which can make you sigh with relief to realise that you are not alone.

I find it fascinating because often when we are faced with challenges we tell ourselves that

‘It must be me’

‘i don’t have that skill’

‘This is something that’s a problem because of xyz’

When actually you are experiencing the growth phase of the business.

Who is this book for?

I really recommend this book if you’re a business owner. No matter what stage you are in, whether you’ve just started your business or are in the middle or fast growth phase, wherever you are:

That you read this book!

This is a book for entrepreneurs (aspiring and current!) and actual business owners. It’s so interesting and fascinating and you’ll find yourself laughing at the statements thinking ‘Gosh I have said that to myself’ or ‘I’ve faced that challenge!’.

It’s time to get reading!

So a little bit of book inspiration from me today! I listen to books on audible and I love to add it into elements of my day where I’m already doing things, whether that’s going for my morning walk or doing my makeup (basically using my time as efficiently as possible!).

I really recommend this book, I’m really enjoying it!

Have you read this book? I’m intrigued to know what you think. If you have any comments on what you thought I’d love to chime in and have a chat with you about it, leave me a comment below and let’s talk!

Remember, there is always room for growth and to learn more about being a business owner or an entrepreneur, inspire your mind and educate yourself.

BIG love,

Mary-Anne. x
